Sustainability is playing an increasingly important role in corporate procurement and supplier selection, and assessing it requires documented and comparable information. The EcoVadis assessment provides customers with comparable information, produced by an external evaluator, on how sustainability is reflected in a company’s policies, everyday operations and achieved results.

Metos operations in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia and Lithuania achieved a Bronze Medal in their first joint EcoVadis assessment.

EcoVadis is a widely used international sustainability assessment tool for companies. It covers four areas: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement. It is based on documented evidence of a company’s policies, actions and achieved results.

For customers, the assessment provides a comparable perspective for evaluating sustainability performance. It brings together sustainability work carried out across different parts of the organization and makes sustainability-related practices and results more visible. For Metos, the assessment also serves as a tool for managing and continuously developing its sustainability work.

A balanced result across four sustainability areas

Metos achieved an overall score of 68/100 in its first EcoVadis assessment. The result qualified for a Bronze Medal and placed Metos in the 72nd percentile, meaning that the result was higher than that of 72% of companies assessed by EcoVadis.

The balanced performance across the different assessment areas provides a broader view of sustainability work beyond environmental issues alone. EcoVadis assesses areas such as energy use and emissions, materials and waste, occupational health and safety, employee development, anti-corruption, information security, supplier requirements and supply chain monitoring.

The assessment is a starting point for continuous improvement

The value of the EcoVadis assessment goes beyond the score achieved. It also helps identify areas where operations can be further developed.

Over the next 12 months, Metos will review and prioritize the improvement areas identified in the assessment, update policies, define new KPIs and targets, and monitor and report on results. The aim is to turn the feedback from the assessment into continuous and measurable improvements in sustainability performance before the next assessment. Metos aims to strengthen its sustainability management during the next assessment cycle and improve its rating towards Silver Medal level.

For customers, this means that the EcoVadis result is not only an assessment of Metos’ current sustainability performance, but also a tool for its systematic development in the years ahead.
